Janet: Sleeping on the job again, Janet? Just joking!
Hope you are doing well. I have been meaning to post - I learned that Camomile and other herbal teas can interfere with thyroid hormone if not taken at least 4 hours away from dose. We know that is true of coffee, except when one is taking Tirosint. This also applies to any caffeine. Dark chocolate should also be eaten at least 4 hours away from thyroid med dose.
More later.

Dark chocolate is very high in magnesium and is good for heart and BP. It has 96-100 mg magnesium per square. But watch thyroid dosing.

Janet: I too have raised many puppies over the years so I understand - the last puppy I got was in 1995 - Whisper was 6 years old when I got her in 2008 and all trained. This is definitely the way to go for retired age people. I just found something else that interferes with thyroid, only this happens at any time of day. ASPIRIN! I have experienced this! See this: www.thyroid.about.com/b/2004/01/15/can-ibuprofen-and-aspirin-affect-your-thyroid.htm

Well folks, another veggie to add to the goitrogen list. CELERY. Cooking destroys almost all of the goitrogen effect. Celery is highly effective in reducing BP. Let's hope cooking it will still do the job. That is my input for the day on my continuing effort to furnish thyroid information! Everyone have a good day!

People have written about this list on another site. Some believe it to be certain individuals who are affected. Maybe it is the ones who have Hashi. The list keeps getting longer. I enjoy a little crisp raw celery now and then, but do not eat daily. Thanks for posting the info!

Sue: That is interesting. I had never seen celery on any list of foods that interfere with thyroid. I DO have Hashimotos.
I continue my research...

Hi,
Sorry I have not posted (other that <<<<<<<<<<< LOL) This puppy is very time consuming and I was so tired. She is much better now. Even goes in her crate on her own with door open for naps
Then I got sick - horrible sore throat and ear infection - on antibiotics ... which I hate but had no choice.
I have actually been doing well on Levoxyl FINALLY. I was upped to 150 mcgs and I think that helped. Blood work end of June will tell. If my TSH isn't right after all this I may have to find a new drug. But .. I feel well. It's like it "kicked in" out of the blue and I felt like my "old self".
I have always eaten broccoli, cauliflower, brusel sprouts YUM, and celery and never had a problem. I eat a lot of veggies of all kinds. I do eat them cooked.
How is everybody??? Sorry I have not posted in a while

Hi, I guess I did not understand what you were saying about celery, Karen. The link above did not work for me. Janet, I am sorry you have been sick. I had sinus issues in the beginning with the new Levoxyl. Then, later it appeared to be more digestive than anything. Hope that you continue to do well on Levoxyl.
Well, I think I have tried every med out there except cytomel for my thyroid. Right now, I am wondering about synthroid. Does anyone know what year it was reformulated, and what changes were made when it was off the market? I do remember it was gone for awhile. I stopped taking it in mid 2006 when I discovered I felt so much better at the time on Levoxyl. I am trying some samples my regular doctor gave me last year and feel pretty good right now on it. These are 200 Synthroid which I cut in half. I know I have to be careful of the acacia. I felt the acacia was the reason my sinus infections were so difficult to treat in '06.
How is everyone else doing on their meds? Have a good weekend all! Sue

Hi Sue:
The Web Site just re enforced that info about celery: It is a toxic goitrogen and should not be eaten raw is heavy amounts.. . by those who are on thyroid supplementation. Not everyone is effected, but many I know are including myself. I was taking 4 stalks a day of celery for BP, getting very good results on the BP but it was interfering with thyroid absorption. The best suggestion is to stop eating it if it bothers you. The 4 people I know that cannot tolerate it also have Hashi. Maybe that is the connection.
I took Synthroid from 1979 to 2004. I have no idea when it was reformulated. In 2004 I changed to Levoxyl until 2013 when it went off the market. I tried Levoxyl in 2014 on the 175 mcg dose which was what I was on in 2013, but it was way too much. I quit after 4 days. Now I know that 125 mcg works for me, I would not mind trying Levoxyl again on that dose.
I have been on Synthroid for more than a year now and I am taking the double dose cut in half method. I don't find it too bad, just have a few hives while on it and I am assuming Synthroid is the cause, but I could be wrong. Currently I am on 125 mcg, and take one half a 200 mcg pill then powderize the other 100 mcg and separate it into 4 parts so the 4 parts last for 4 days when adding it to the 100 mcg half. I leave the powderized portions out in the open air, the pharmacist told me that was OK. Just do not expose it to moisture. I have some Levoxyl in the house and want to try the 200 mcg cut in half etc, but I found that it is very HARD to powderize. Not at all like Synthroid. I am a little leary on changing it now as I just got over another 4 days of A Fib when I went hypo again, but this was due to foods interfering with absorption. I cut out the celery and the A Fib stopped and I felt my thyroid was working better. I found no info that included celery on the goitrogen list. Of course the DRS know nothing about this, or at least in my case they did not. So I am off again on the right foot hopefully.
I know what you mean about acacia. I don't like it, but now am getting one half of it instead of the full amount. I did notice a BIG difference when I went to double dosing cut in half. Hopefully it will work for you. Everything I read says it is the best thyroid supplement on the market. Don't agree with that, but do what it takes to keep away from A Fib.

Janet: Your puppy is so cute! Love her to bits. It also looks like you are out in the country and everything is green. Send us some of your rain! I tried to use a digital camera picture taken recently of Whisper but it was too big. Will resize it later and use as Avatar.

Sue:
How are you doing on Synthroid? You mentioned you were going to try it. My pharmacist used veggie capsules for me with organic wheat flour, and it worked very well. I am back on it . I had to decrease the dose a bit which meant another DR visit and script. But I am sure you can find a good compounding pharmacist in your area.
Nothing else to report.

Karen Hi Karen, I was trying the Synthroid while waiting on WP to arrive. I did not feel well on WP as my sinus would just clog up on me and I'd have the worst headaches. I tried Synthroid again but stopped it due to a sore throat on Synthroid. I finally decided to give Levoxyl another try. I have been taking it for a few days now. I will see how this goes for now. I was doing pretty good on this pill through Christmas. Then, I took Bactrim due to a UTI. I am hoping that if I can avoid taking more sulfa based medications to stay on Levoxyl.
It is great that you were able to get a lower dosed compounded capsule that works! It is good to hear from you. Hope everyone else is doing well on their medication.

I just learned this week that Synthroid, Levoxyl, Sandoz, and all the levothyroxine thyroid meds should never be frozen or refrigerated. They are to be kept away from moisture at stable temperatures of approx 59-86 degrees with ideal temps mid range. Per Cabro this information is in the packet of information that comes with each levothyroxine drug. This was new to me. Thanks Cabro! For some reason this does not apply to compounded T4 as the instructions on my compounded bottle say Keep Refrigerated. I will check with the pharmacist later on that one.

Good luck to you all on your thyroid journey. I will be turning the board over to Karen. Are you leaving us, Janet? Or just administrating? How is your levoxyl doing? I am back on it after trying all the T3. Side effects are worse on T3's for me. Just hoping for the best. Thanks for all your hard work creating this forum. Take care! Sue
