I never know if I am posting or not on here. I am so sorry to hear about the cancer return, Kat. Praying the laser with take care of it! I am so glad the Levoxyl is working for Janet and Bonnie. I have my new dose of Levoxyl and started taking half of a 175mg pill last night. I am hoping my problem with it will be resolved by taking it at night. It is nice to hear that the pounds may come off again after I am more stable. I am hopeful that the BP will also be better. I heard from Carol. Her cardiologist gave her a new pill, and it is working better at the moment. Take care and have a good weekend, everyone. Sue

After you log on go to the top (in purple area) and click on PROFILE. You can do a lot there and make your avatar too you can even upload a photo as I did with my puppy. It took almost 3 months on Levoxyl for the pounds to come off and BP to be normal for me. So hang in there. I have Kat to thank for that advise because I almost gave up and she told me it took a while and she was right. Good luck and let me know how you're doing. Janet

Bonnie, thanks so much and I am so happy for you too. Stockpiling is absolutely fine I even paid 63.00 without my insurance for 90 days to have an extra bottle on hand. I am glad you are feeling so much better and more functional!!! My thoughts and prayers are with Carol & Kathy.

Janet:
I am still alive. Just have not been posting lately. I had to go back to Synthroid this month because I could not find a doctor to refill my compounded. Quite an adjustment, dealing with hives again is not fun. I am thinking of trying Levoxyl again. I tried it two time last year but that was when I was super hypo. Might be easier to convert now. Does anyone know if you can convert on the same strength? I was thinking of startiing with the 100 mcg. Going to the 112 mcg on Synthroid was too strong.

Karen, I am sorry to hear you are having trouble getting your refill. I am still struggling with Levoxyl. The endo suggested I work my way up to the 100mcg. She ordered the double dose 175mcg. I have even tried taking it at night which was actually some better. I don't feel bad on it, but the loose stools are just too much. Before asking for a different medicine, I thought I'd try the Tirosint 88 since I have almost a three month supply of it. After the fourth day, my tummy has felt rather off. I am thinking about asking again for the generic by Mylan. As far as I know, I have not taken that one. I did mention it to the male nurse who returned my call a few weeks ago. She prefers brand name. I do have brand name Synthroid on hand. My interist gave lots of samples of the 200 to halve. I had so much trouble with the acacia before that I am hesitant to try it even with half the fillers. I think my options are to try the Mylan, Synthroid or WP-Throid! My top doctor endo had never heard of WP-Throid and Westhroid did not seem to ring any bells for her either. She is actually on the STTM website as one of their approved doctors. She does not seem to really mind if one goes with T4 or T3 though. I am getting too long here. I wish you luck if you decide to try Levoxyl again. Hope to see some more posts soon from everyone! Sue

Hi Everyone...I went for all the blood work on Friday and saw my Primary Care Doctor. I was shopping at WalMart's when the Doctor's office called with the results. I will give you all the numbers but thank the Lord ...all the results for lipid panel, diabetes were perfect/ However, my TSH is borderline HYPER. I talked to my Doctor and I told him rather than change doses I would take less of the current 200mcg's. I know that in two months it will go back to normal. Also,my laser treatment went well in treating the Cancer. It was not invasive and I will have to have biopsies taken every three months but that is fine with me. Also, now I have to begin the battle to get my health care to pay for immunology treatments. Why does everything HAVE TO BE SO DIFFICULT AND EXPENSIVE WHEN YOU REALLY NEED AND DESERVE IT. Sue...I hope whatever you decide to take works. Have you ever considered just taking the levoxyl and not adding anything else? Karen...I am glad that you are giving levoxyl another chance. I hope you have positive results. How are you feeling Janet? I will write soon and again you all are always in my prayers and thoughts. ....Love....Kat

Sue: Actually the acacia AND Cornstarch are both causing the hives, I believe. I am allergic to both ingredients. I am taking a half dose of the 200 mcg Synthroid. I noticed a change in mental state - is the best way I can describe how I felt while trying the Levoxyl. I gave it five days. As I mentioned , this was last year. I believe it was when I was TSH of 60+. No thyroid med will seem to work well when you have a TSH that high. Maybe I should not rock the boat. I will think a little more before I take the Levoxyl. I have to wait 2 months to get it covered by my insurance - I just got a refil of the 90 day supply 3 weeks ago. So we will see, we will see.
KAT - I know what you are taking about. Seems like we have to fight for everything these days. But we know you can do it - you are a fighter, and hopefully the support here will help you to not give up on anything, ever. Glad to hear your first treatment went well on your cancer. Was this a return of thyroid cancer? Not sure if you mentioned the type of cancer that came back. Whatever, you are in my daily prayers for healing.
This Ebola thing is getting out of our government control. Why are they waiting so long to stop flights from those poor countries in Africa? It should have been done weeks ago. I agree we need to help them, but we must be "better safe than sorry" and make sure no epidemic of it spreads to our country. I don't believe this is an over reaction. I was so happy to hear the little dog of that Dallas nurse was NOT put down. The dog is being well taken care of. There is so much more to this story. Our government has not been telling us the truth per usual. There was a doctor interviewed on Fox News that has been studying Ebola since 2003 and HE said there is a chance the Ebola can spread via the air and enter the lungs. Well , that is off my shoulders now.

Sue: Please check out the inactives on Mylan. It has several cancer toxins in it, including butylatedhydrosyanilone. Gosh, I would not put that stuff in my system. It also has Mannitol, a potent diuretic. If one is going to take a diuretic, that one would be my last choice. It is in there because is it cheap.
I am not feeling that bad on Synthroid. The inactives are harmless compared to many of the other thyroid meds. I also have not had need for A Fib treatment at the hospital since MAY 30. So I believe the heart is healing and on its way to a totally Free of A Fib status very soon. I have had a steady TSH now of 3.0 ish for4 months. I will have an echo cardiogram in DEC. Hopefully my EF will be better than the 40% it was in March.
Nature throid also has numerous inactives in it. Janet put the inactives list on the Proboard so you can easily look that up for reference.
ERFA went through a formula change back in Jan-Feb this year, so take that one off the list. I also got two prescriptions from a Canadian pharmacy of Erfa that were expired. Never got my money back on those either although I complained and even brought it to the attentions of their Medical Director. STTM ha s a Web Site on this issue.

Bonnie:
I would strongly recommend an analysis of what foods or meds you might be taking too close to the Levoxyl before the DR ups the dose. There may be some interference with absorption going on. I had that happen to me recently. I decided to take almonds out of my diet after that. They are raw goitrogens and can interfere with t hyroid meds at any time of day. The 4 hour rule doesnt always apply. Something I learned that might apply to others. Good idea to stock pile. Please keep us posted on how you do.

When to take your labs for thyroid - fasting, or after eating - whatever - is highly controversial . I personally have always done the labs in the morning , fasting at least 12 hours. I did that primarily because the thyroid tests were included with other tests that required fasting.
Bonnie, I think that you should do exactly as you believe is best for you and exactly what your doctor recommends. Everyone is different. Although I do not understand how fasting or not can make too big a difference unless you are fasting for more than 24 hours. Any other opinions?? I just wanted to bring my personal experience to the Forum. Over the years I have been told to increase my dose due to a slight increase in TSH so many times I would now be on 500 mcg perday if I did increase the dose each time. I instead watched my eating habits and made sure I was not eating anything that could interfere with thyroid supplement or eating too soon after taking it and after doing that my TSH would be back to normal.
I hope to hear from Carol on that subject.

Hi everyone, I have my labs done without fasting and I do take my pill that day. My Mom has had hypothyroid for 30 years and takes her pill with food ... and always has good labs. I do wait the 30 to 60 minutes before I eat as stated on my bottle but as far as the rest of the day goes ... I eat whatever I want and always have - and until the recall of Levoxyl I always had good labs. And do now OH ... I do wait till after lunch to take vitamins.

Sue Sue, here are the inactives from pdr.com in WP thyroid: Inulin, Medium Chain Triglycerides, Lactose Monohydrate. I was definitely going to try that if Levoxyl didn't work for me, but luckily it has. How long have you had loose stools? I did for about 3 to 5 weeks this time as well as 13 years ago when I started Levoxyl. It eventually went away. My Doctor will only write brand as well so I did go to wpthyroid.com and print their page (which is right now under construction) to show him it is in fact a brand name drug. Please post how you are doing with whatever you try.

Karen Karen, thanks that IS a great idea and I will do it. I was at the Dentist today and the girl cleaning my teeth was freaking out about the new cases here. It is very scary but I believe containable if the right measures are taken.

Karen Hi, Karen, I would say it took a good two and a half to three months for Levoxyl to start working 100% for me. I feel so great now and am so glad I stuck with it. I think new Levoxyl is a tiny bit stronger than old Levoxyl. But I am up to normal dose of .125 mcgs and doing really well. Good luck with whatever you do take. I am sorry you are having problems with refills on compounded. Janet
