I Tried it again, the 150 cut in half to try to keep my T4 going and I spent 2weeks in hell Again. I realize it may have not been long enough but I experienced the worst Burning in my stomach bladder & bowels also in my Eyes & throat. And that was for the Entire 2weeks day and night. I could not pee at all, literally I could not empty my bladder nor have a BM. (Sorry for being blunt) it was the worst 2weeks of my life yet. I also had intense ronin going of the Ears terribly and my vision was intensely blurry and could not focus. My Dr said no more and even my pharmacist said he had never seen me so sick so swelled up with retention. That I should not go back on that Levoxyl and I had a similar reaction to a Sulfa antibiotic so we are calling a "Allergic reaction to it" more than likely the Sulfites......this is just what had happens each and every time now that I have tried and retried the New Levoxyl, sadly. I also experienced extreme sleepiness, like walking into a store and having to rest my head on a wall and basically dosing off. And the Anxiety with it for the 2weeks again was the worst I've ever dealt with. It made my joint my muscles ache and hurt and my stomach was blown up and hurt so badly. Oddest reaction I've ever had for the entire 2weeks. I'm sad to say my Levoxyl days are over. It was a nightmare that we didn't think I was going to live through. I'm really glad it is working for the ones that are taking it I just can't tolerate it. I'll post my current status under the forum it's good we have new threads hopefully others will jump on and make more threads as we have time!! Stacey : )

Hi Stacey, I am sooooo sorry you had to go through all that! Other pills have done horrible things to me too and we have all been through so much this last year and ?? Levoxyl is working great for me now. I was not having the horrible effects you were (I am so sorry you did) but I did have some minor ones that went away with time. I still get a little nervouse (hyper) but not bad. I sleep so great and feel a lot more energy and clear thinking. The ear ringing went away after 2 weeks. What are you taking now for T4? I hope you are doing ok. I love your Avatar Janet

I've been back on Levoxyl since February when it first became available again. The extreme tiredness and brain fog went away, but I have continued to pack on all the weight I had lost a few years ago. It is very frustrating that the new clothes I bought then are getting tight again. I went to a wedding on Saturday and I couldn't wear the dress I had worn to another wedding back in April. I got it zipped, but it was so uncomfortable that I ended up wearing a different dress because I would have been miserable all day. My blood pressure is higher than it should be too, and I always used to have lower than normal blood pressure. I really need to find a new endo. My TSH number is fine, back down from being up when I was on the Synthroid when Levoxyl wasn't available, but obviously something still isn't right. All she is concerned about is my osteoporosis, but I'm much more concerned about my thyroid issues.

Terry,
I'm sorry I've been really busy with so many things this summer and now just added another travel schedule Tio tracel back to Fort Wayne, IN to watch my son's senior year of college football. I'm so excited but sad he's been playing Wide Recievet since he was 10 years old. Now he's all grown up and this is it. So been trying to budget travel plans, health resets lol and coordinate family time and hope to be going back at 3 times through December.
Ok, I won't go into all of my journey right now as it's a long story but I Just Could Not take Levoxyl. Something is So Different with that pill that no matter what I have tried in dosing & timing...I can no longer tolerate that medication. It's odd can't put my finger on whst the problem has been with it but when it totally shuts down my whole system and leaves me unable to use the bathroom at all, unable to concentrate, feel so wiped out I can't stay awake day or night. I had blown up with toxins in my system and it created the worst anxiety I've ever experienced that I finally said No More for me, my quality of life went to Zero so though others are doing well and I'm do glad that is the case for those that it does work, unfortunately it is not worth keeping my body in a state of toeture that it did create.
I'm currently working slowly with Cytomel (even had to drop that out completely and I can only take it more on an intermittently times. I have been slowly adding Armour The WP Thyroid into my System but it does have a "lactose inactive" so can't take that regularly either.
When I did take the Levoxyl my Free T4 was still low and my RT3 went High. So it's obvious I have a conversion problem.
I seem to do my best with Cytomel on every 3rd Day and that is at 5 mg in AM and 5 mg at 2:00pm. I skip 2 days and do that dose again. I'm clearing out RT3 finally and my Free T3 is stating in the mid range. ( still not optimal but better than being so sick everyday ) My Free T4 is low but I don't feel terrible I can focus and function and anxiety has dropped a lot. I may never be st higher ranges I once sat at however it's better than what Levoxyl did to me.
For some reason Levoxyl shut down my entire digestive system and now I have to go Scripps an hour away in Carnel Valley once a week for A Urologist to do a catherizatipn and empty my bladder due to me now unable to empty on my own Not a problem I had until this last time on Levoxyl... Now he then instills a bladder cocktail to treat my IC of the Bladder. I should be having a similar procedure done with my bowels however I don't think they have a medical procedure to do that especially as easy as this has become. I don't know what is in new Levoxyl but shutting down my entire system was the worst experience I've been through yet with this Thyroid debacle.
I'm doing much better as long as I stay off Levoxyl / Synthroid or any other T4 only treatment. I'm actually much happier & calmer without it.
That's been just a tip of the iceberg but I can tell you that there is something different with the med for ME. My labs are not perfect but I'm doing better now that I'm off that stuff than I have been in a long time. For me it made me More Hypo no matter what dose or how long I stayed on it. So I feel for you and all the others that are dealing with it not working as it used to for our bodies because there's only so many choices out there.
I even tried the compound of T4/ T3 and only acidophilus as filler. After similar struggles with continued use of 3 weeks straight, the pharmacist, my Dr, my husband and myself have determined I am now " Levothyroxine intolerant" so that has been our conclusion that I can not take that in any form and I'm doing much better without it in my system.
Something changed somewhere and my body just can't take the Levothyroxine of any form and that's ok, so far I'm doing much better off it.
Good luck to you, I wish I had an answer for you but I belong to several groups on Facebook and there are do many that are having similar problems that our group is and has experienced and without any real explanation
Have a good weekend take care : )) Stacey.

Not much I know but it did take a while for me to start losing weight. My blood pressure was a little high but it was also a little high 13 years ago when I first started taking Levoxyl. It has come down to almost normal now. Janet

Thanks for the info on Levoxyl and BP, Janet. I am glad your BP is getting better. I have also gained weight which probably contributes to the BP. I am thinking I will stay on levoxyl unless something shows on my labs. I left the nurse a message that I think I prefer to add some cytomel to a reduced dose of Levoxyl. I feel better on taking some of it. I tried some of the old Nature-throid for a few days and just did not feel well. My throat was scratchy yesterday. I could not remember the reason I stopped N-T a couple of years back except for the BP. I also needed to get on antibiotics due to sinus problems. I really don't want to struggle with my sinus. My adrenals are being tested and if something shows on this it will mean more medication! I hope I am writing in the proper box. I was about to do it on 'shout'! Have a good day everyone.

I know that Karen and I talked about sublingually taking levoxyl on our old forum. I am thinking about trying it again for a few days. I really like the way I feel on this med., but the side effect is very bothersome. I have been on Mary Shomon's site researching and it seems to be up in the air somewhat on Mary Shomon's site. It has been a week and I have heard nothing from my labs from Dr. Wheeler's office. I probably do not have time to call them until next week as we have other appointments. Time for the Roosevelt series so I am off for awhile. Have a good evening all!

Hi. I am still not getting notifications so decided to just check in, and reset my password again. I have been on my old dose of 100 Levoxyl for over a month now. I visited with the NP at my gastro's office. She thinks my loose stools date back to my antibiotic use last April. After a couple of doses of cholestyramine, that problem seems fine. She also gave me a generic form of flagyl just in case I have a bacteria infection or parasites. I had a UTI in early Jan. I had to take some Bactrim to take care of the UTI and have only started the flagyl today. It sure makes me want to nap a lot. Hopefully, I will feel better after finishing this med. I have not been able to tell much difference with my increase in Levoxyl. My BP has been good at every doctor's office I have visited since going to the endo in December. So far, no weight loss noted! I hope everyone is doing well. It has been quite cold and windy here today. I am so looking forward to spring!

Hi Sue; I am so glad to hear your BP is good. I hope the UTI clears up and everything else too. It is very cold here too and a lot of snow. I love snow so it doesn't bother me, just have cabin fever Levoxyl was making me lose weight but I kind of leveled off there. I'd sure like to lose a few more pounds. Janet

Checking in as I am not getting notifications or maybe no one has been on lately! I still am not losing any weight, and do not feel good the way I did on the old Levoxyl! Last week, I had some really good labs after being on 100mg Levoxyl for six weeks. My internist ordered them as I am not due to see the endo for another month. Free T4 is 1.32 (ref.range .78-2.19) TSH is 0.92 (.047-4.68) Free T3 is 3.46 (2.50-3.90.) My blood pressure has been very good. However, I still do not feel that well. I seem to need naps or rests periods late morning and by five most afternoons. Today, I have unexplained a tummy ache. I had one a few days ago. I am beginning to wonder about this Levoxyl. I had the UTI meds. Then, I took some flagyl that the NP at the gastro office gave me in December. I had to wait until the UTI cleared before I was able to take the generic flagyl. I started having shortness of breath while on it, and terrible fatigue. Before the 5th day was over, I decided I had to stop taking the meds and did not finish the full seven days. The shortness of breath was really a problem on the last day. Shortness of breath is listed as a possible side effect for flagyl. I have had occasional shortness of breath and informed my doctor when I was there in Oct. It was not often and she seemed unconcerned. I have had some reoccuring IC since Jan. I had this problem several years ago. The urologist at the time suggested I try Prelief which is an over the counter acid reducer. This helped and I gave up some acidic foods that irriated such as pickles. I really have not had a problem with IC in at least five years until now. After reading over some of Stacey's notes, I now am wondering if the new inactives in Levoxyl may be the reason I am now having the pain/soreness in my sides off and on. I do try to remember to take the Prelief which I had not taken in years. Any thoughts, anyone? Thanks. Sue

Hi Sue.
I am so sorry you are having problems. Levoxyl is definitely NOT the same as before the recall. I too am concerned about the new inactives and do not feel as good as I feel I should.
I never see many people posting much any more, but I know others are having issues as well.
I am not getting notifications either. Try posting on the main board, maybe that will help.
Hang in there and take care. Janet

I did get this notification! There does appear to be few users on here lately. I have actually been trying to refresh my memory about Nature-throid. I think I was never really on anything but a small dose, 3/4 of a grain. I believe my BP was up, and I did get a sinus infection. Maybe the dose was the problem. No decisions tonight, for sure! Are you taking half of a double dose? I did find that to be helpful, but do feel that these inactives are building up in my system. Have a good night! Thanks. Sue

Sue this is going to be brief. IMO it's fillers, also the lack of old clean Levoxlyl. My life hasn't been the same. I'm still dealing with IC & IBS problems even on WP. I know Hypo however I'm so lost as to what to do next. As of course like everyone else I've tried it all and literally chased each and every horrible issue that makes me just want to give up completely. I take Prelief occasionally but in my case my IC is soooo Flared that it doesn't seem to do much for me any longer. I still drive an hour one to bladder instills 2x weekly. Plus take the only med for IC. Elmiron. My life as I knew it is no longer. I dealing with continued burning through out my entire body daily. So upsetting. I've went off all meds and did finally get some good days of course until my Hypo symptoms returned with a completely. So now back to taking baby steps without much success of feeling well.
I'm sorry I don't mean to sound like a downer as I am not by nature. However I feel like I'm completely conquered and struggle with pain burning and frustration daily.
I'm sorry to hear ypu are struggling but we are not the only ones. Sadly so many are dealing with same troubles. I don't have any answers for you as I'm at the bottom trying to find my way back up without much success.
It's sad as I was doing ok for awhile then like every other time I start to feel worse and end up chasing my tail over and over.
Good luck to you I pray one day I can take my needed thyroid meds continiously with success. But so far I have no answers other than treating every problem as it take over my life.
Take care Stacey

I'm sorry but I need to be more blunt than i ever have been. I'm very sick, I have been since Christmas and not only dealing with Thyroid issues that are overwhelming but my Bladder issues,My IBS is messed up and dealing with Migraines often. I have added a new puppy to my life which has put me even further into my flare. She is going to be trained for a therapy dog soon as I cant seem to heal my self as easy this time around. To those who are on Favebook I've talen ypu off as o don't need everyone knowing all my business. Please don't take this personal as it has nothing to do with anyone other than ME trying to heal myself so I can have some quality of life.
Anyone that is dealing with our issues surely can understand. And relate when your body is fighting you it's time to shut down and try to fight back to get some resolve i life.
I'll check this forum as time will allow but sadly being very sick has been very taxing on my life family and home.
I wish everyone well and again I'll get i here as time permits. Thank you for your understanding Stacey

Bonnie, I am so sorry as I had hopes the new doctor, and tests would be helpful. Yes, Levoxyl was so good before. I also wish they had left it alone. It just seems like we solve one problem to have two more crop up at my house. I have back on the half of a Levoxyl 175 dose for now for several days. So far, I am tolerating, but do not feel my best. I have an appointment for the 13th with Digestive Health Care, and hope they will check my iron storage as I seem to be so tired, and still have a little shortness of breath at times. Iron has been a problem in the past. Now, I can not find the iron pill I was on before in the store. My daughter is not doing well on the increased prednisone even with our decreasing her thyroid med. She is very agitated. We go back Monday. I hope her doctor has a new plan because this one does not seem to be working. We have spent over eight years going from doctor to doctor trying to get the right treatment for her. It is very frustrating. I do feel for you Bonnie, and hope you find the right doctor who can help you. Do you think maybe there is another autoimmune condition in play now that was not there before since you have hashimotos? That, just came to mind. My sister learned recently that she has Autoimmune Uritica which produces a terribly itchy rash. No one has told her she has a thyroid problem even though her daughter has been treating for years for goiters. I'd be finding a good endo, if I had that diagnosis. I am praying you find some answers soon, Bonnie! Try to get some rest tonight.

I copied this from searching I did today. You have several problems listed below RE: hypothyroid symptoms
Bonnie, I think you are still hypo from everything I have read. See below:
The guidelines, however, recommend that the range for acceptable thyroid function, and thyroid treatment a TSH of 0.3 to 3.0 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The signs and symptoms of hypothyroidism vary, depending on the severity of the hormone deficiency. But in general, any problems you have tend to develop slowly, often over a number of years.
At first, you may barely notice the symptoms of hypothyroidism, such as fatigue and weight gain, or you may simply attribute them to getting older. But as your metabolism continues to slow, you may develop more obvious signs and symptoms. Hypothyroidism signs and symptom may include:
Fatigue Increased sensitivity to cold Constipation Dry skin Unexplained weight gain Puffy face Hoarseness Muscle weakness Elevated blood cholesterol level Muscle aches, tenderness and stiffness Pain, stiffness or swelling in your joints Heavier than normal or irregular menstrual periods Thinning hair Slowed heart rate Depression Impaired memory Swollen tongue or scalloped tongue
When hypothyroidism isn't treated, signs and symptoms can gradually become more severe. Constant stimulation of your thyroid gland to release more hormones may lead to an enlarged thyroid (goiter). In addition, you may become more forgetful, your thought processes may slow, or you may feel depressed.
Advanced hypothyroidism, known as myxedema, is rare, but when it occurs it can be life-threatening. Signs and symptoms include low blood pressure, decreased breathing, decreased body temperature, unresponsiveness and even coma. In extreme cases, myxedema can be fatal.

I don't think Levoxyl is perfect but I am not really having the issues that you are.
I am so sorry this is so difficult for you but it seems you really need to find a Dr or go to an emergency room if you feel so bad that you are seriously talking about where to be buried!!!
I am very concerned about you and think you need to seek emergency medical help ASAP!

Bonnie: I can understand your concern about the little packet now appearing in your Levoxyl bottle. You can ask the pharmacist to NOT include it when you pick up the medication. You can also remove it yourself and throw it out. Then follow the recommended storage information on the bottle and there should be no problem. I do know that any thyroid should not be stored in the bathroom where you take a shower or bath. It should be stored in a cool dry place, perhaps your bedroom?
When did you last have labs done? It sure sounds to me like your symptoms are hypothyroid. Just thinking, are you careful with dosing on an empty stomach and not eating the cabbage family veggies either cooked or not? Sometimes I forget and eat too soon after dosing. They say that you can eat the goitrogens cooked, but I have found I cannot. And I am as sensitive as you are. ALMONDS are also goitrogens.

Is there a packet in the levoxyl bottles now? I am pretty sure mine have not had this at any time. Is Karen Guest Karen Williams? Just wondering as we have not seen her on in some time!
